The Great Hail Storm of Omwat
Peetza da Hutt came through with real live pizza despite a torrential downpour and significant hail storm. The arroyos were running and so were the gutters. His reward: half a bottle of Chianti. That in part might explain our failure to recognize arch-Rebel Wood's dastardly setup with a plan to control the Outer Rim on the very first turn. He was successful in capturing the sector, but he failed to take Kurt from the Hutts. That left him vulnerable to the Imperial counter-attack that swept into Kurt, through Balmorra and into Yavin 4.
On the second turn, the Emperor's starbase was placed on Omwat (again), which was only remotely threatened by a small Rebel force on Excarga. The Imperial garrison was significant and kept growing over time.
From there the game swung back and forth between the factions, with the most serious moment when the Hutts rolled up 9 resource planets, but failed to capture Kessel, the 10th system. The Empire had tightened the screws on everyone by blowing up first Gamorr and then Duro.
But the faction cards were with the Rebels. The "All Imperial troops must flee to an adjacent planet" negated the large garrison by causing them to move to Elom. With another well-played bonus card, the dice rolls easily overwhelmed the Emperor's personal bodyguards.
Victory Rebels.
